How to Setup Yahoo! Mail in Android

How to Setup Yahoo! Mail in Android

If you want to read your Yahoo! mails in your Android, you can either use the official mail App or you can use the POP3 option. The advantage of using POP3 is that you can combine your mails from other mail account (e.g. Hotmail) into one inbox! Here is the guide.

1. Open the email app.

2. Click on the physical Menu button on your phone to bring up the menu. Select "Add account".

3. In the Email Service Provider screen, select Others.

4. Enter your Yahoo! Mail address and password. Check the “Send email from this account by default option” if you want to send email using this account by default. You can click Next and let the mail app to detect the settings. But in this guide, I’ll set it up using the manual method. So, click on “Manual setup” button.

5. In the Incoming server settings screen, fill in your username (full email address) and password. The POP3 server is pop.mail.yahoo.com and the port is 995. For security type, select SSL.

Depending on your preference, you can either keep the email in the web or delete it after you downloaded the email into your phone.

Never – Never delete email in Yahoo! server. (You can still access it from Yahoo! Mail web)

When I delete from Inbox – Delete the email in Yahoo! server when you deleted it in your Android phone.

When I retrieve from Server – Delete the email in Yahoo! server after the email is downloaded into your phone. You won’t be able to view the email in the web anymore!

6.  Next, enter the details of the SMTP server. This is the server that you’ll use for sending emails. The SMTP server is smtp.mail.yahoo.com, port is 465, security type is SSL and check the Require sign-in checkbox. Then enter your username (full email address) and password. Click Next.

7. Select the options that fit your preference and click Next.

8. Give the account a name (this name will show in your Inbox) and the name you want to use when sending email. Then click done.

9. Now you can read your Yahoo! Mail using your Android smartphone!

15 General Tips and Tricks for Nokia Users

Useful General Tips and Tricks for Nokia Mobile Users

These are the Some General Tips and Tricks for Nokia Mobile Users which will be helpful.

Tips 1 : Do u know how to use the edit button (abc or pencil button)?

Heres how... In the inbox for example; u wanna delete multiple sms, simply hold the edit button, scroll down, and then, press c to delete the marked sms. The edit button can also b used to copy and past text in sms, simply hold it and scroll across, choose copy. Pretty good for placing song names in ngages

Tip 2 : Format of Phone
Shit happens, on a smartphone, its inevitable u do something wrong, and tis calls for a format of Phone.
To format the fone, press *#7370#, then enter the lock code, which is the sec code of the Phone.
NOTE: batt must b full, else if format is disrupted by low batt, consequences will b disatrous.I heard the code *#7780# works too, pretty much the same i think.
for 6600 users, to format the fone, theres an alternative way. Press and hold <3>, <*> and Call (Send) buttons, then power on fone, keep holding on the 3 buttons, till u come to a format screen. This method ONLY works on 6600, and need not enter the sec code. BUT sec code would be reset to default 12345.
Tip 3 : TO N-GAGE USERS;
Did u know u can install .sis files simply using the cable given? Juz plug it in, place the .sis file anywhere on e: (the mmc), not in any folders, root of e:, disconnect, then look for it in manager.
Tip 4: Save on battery and system memory
Save on battery and system memory being used by regulary checking the task manager which can be accessed by holding down the menu button!!
Tip 4a: Set the screen saver to a short time out period to prolong battery life.
Tip 4b: Avoid restarting the phone, or repeatedly turning it on and off. This helps increase battery life.
Tip 5:
Type *#06# to display your IMEI serial number, very valuable for the unlocking your phone to other sim cards
Tip 6:
Type *#0000# to view which firmware version you are running
Tip 7:
If you would like to avoid being "blue jacked", keep bluetooth turned off, or set your phone's visibility to hidden.
Tip 8:
Don't want to carry a watch and a phone? Set the screen saver to show date and time, then you can ditch the watch.
Tip 9: Save memory
Save memory when installing apps, by installing over bluetooth. This can be done using the nokia phone suite and a bluetooth serial connection. Only works with .SIS files, so java still has to be sent to the phone, but will save space when using .SIS files.
Tip 10: Operator logos
Use a filemanager like FExplorer or SeleQ to add the folders: "c:/system/Apps/phone/oplogo". Add a .bmp picture to folder "oplogo" and restart your phone! The .bmp picture size needs to be: 97 x 25 pixels
Tip 11: Check if the recepients phone is on
 Delivery reports
 or
Type *0# your message in the message composer window space then write your message, the recipient will not see the star zero hash bit - just the message When they read it it will relay a message back to your fone showing the time they recieved it. (haven't yet tried it myself though)
Tip 12: BlueJacking

First up, you need to know what Bluetooth is. There are lots of types of modern devices that incorporate Bluetooth as one of their many features. PDAs, mobile phones and laptops are a few of these modern devices. Bluetooth means that Bluetooth enabled devices can send things like phonebook/address book contacts, pictures & notes to other Bluetooth enabled devices wirelessly over a range of about 10 metres. So, we've got past the boring part. Now, using a phone with Bluetooth, you can create a phonebook contact and write a message, eg. 'Hello, you've been bluejacked', in the 'Name' field. Then you can search for other phones with Bluetooth and send that phonebook contact to them. On their phone, a message will popup saying "'Hello, you've been bluejacked' has just been received by Bluetooth" or something along those lines. For most 'victims' they will have no idea as to how the message appeared on their phone.
Tip 13:
While you are viewing a picture in your phone's gallery, press one of these shortcut keys (definitely works on 6600, not sure about other symbians)
1 - turn image anticlockwise
3 - turn image clockwise
* - toggle on/off of full screen
5 - zoom in
0 - zoom out
Tips 14 :
u can select all files in a folder by selecting THE folder and copy it then paste it somewhere. However u need to make a new directory. Fexplorer wun let u copy that folder together. Well seleQ can mark files to copy but it really takes time!
Tips 15 :A soft and Hard reset
A Soft-reset - the process of resetting all the settings of the phone to the factory default! No applications are deleted! A Hard-reset is like formatting a drive! It does format the memory. Everything that has been installed after the first use of the phone is deleted! It will recover the memory of the phone to the state you purchased it! It is done by inputing the following code: *#7370# NOTE: The battery must be full or the charger has to be connected to the phone so that it does not run out of power and make the phone unusable.

Your mobile IMEI can be found by pressing *#06#, always keep a note of your mobile’s IMEI number in a notebook or at some safe place, so that you can use it in case the mobile is lost.

When ever a mobile phone is switched off and on, the  SIM card sends some internal information to the mobile network operator such as mobile IMEI number, mobile model number, mobile version and other technical details.

How To Reset the Nokia E6 and Re-install the OS

Reset Your Nokia E6 and Re-install the OS

To my horror the Nokia E6 review unit that WOM World Nokia sent me seems to have developed a fault and has been spontaneously rebooting every ten minutes or so since yesterday morning.  I really like the phone and hoped to get a few more days use out of it before I have to send it back.  I've been successful in the past at fixing misbehaving Symbian phones with a soft or hard reset so I set about trying to reset the phone to see if that would help.

A Google search for "Nokia E6 reset" brought up a lot of confusing and contradictory information. Much of it was clearly wrong with multiple blog posts referring to the E6's non-existent "camera key". I decided to experiment a bit and publish a tested guide to all the posible ways to reset the E6. They are listed below in order from the least to most destructive of data.

  • Battery pull - Take the battery out for at least 20 seconds. This insures that all background prrocesses are terminated and RAM is completely cleared.  Holding down the power button for about 20 seconds until the phone vibrates three times simulates a battery pull on the E6 just like it does on the N8 and E7, which have non-removable batteries.
  • Soft reset - re-installs some initializtion files. Home screen widgets, profiles and themes are restored to their defaults. Contacts, calendar and user installed apps, music ringtones, themes, photos, files, etc not touched.  There are two ways to soft-reset an E6.
  • Press Home > Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone management > Factory settings >Restore. The first four images above show the reset steps. On the confirmation screen (5th image, above), press "Yes"
  • Or enter *#7780# in the dialer.

  • Reinstall the device software. -  Nokia Software Updater (NSU) from Nokia Beta Labs has an option to re-install the phone's OS (image below). On recent Nokias like the E6 this process is non-destructive thanks to Nokia's User Data Preservation (UDP) feature which means that  your apps, ringtones, contacts, etc will be intact after the update, although a backup is still recommended just in case. NSU comes in versions for Windows XP, Vista or 7, and for Mac OS X Snow Leopard or newer. Updating requires the phone to be connected by a USB cable. The process is very easy, install NSU, connect your phone, wait for NSU to detect the phone and choosethe option to re-install the device software.  The first time you run it NSU has to download the firmware which takes about  15 minutes on a broadband connection. The actual reinstall takes less than 5 minutes.
  • Hard reset. - This is the most destructive reset. The internal C: and E: drives are reformatted and the OS is reinstalled from a copy that is stored in the phone's firmware.  A hard reset will delete everything on the phone including contacts, calendar and user installed apps, music ringtones, themes, photos and files, including anything stored on the internal E: flash drive. Be sure to backup everything on the phone that you want to keep. There are at least two ways to do a hard reset.
  • Press Home > Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone management > Factory settings >Delete data and restore The first four images above show the reset steps. On the hard reset confirmation screen (6th image, above), press "Yes".
  • Or type *#7370# in the dialer and press "Yes" on the confirmation screen.

  •  Three finger salute - Every other Nokia Symbian phone I've ever used can also be hard reset using a "three finger salute" that involves turning on the phone while holding down three specific keys and keeping the keys pressed until Nokia boot logo appears.   Because the "three finger salute" works when the phone is shut off, it's a life saver if the phone wont boot up or is so unstable that it doesn't stay up long enough to enter a code or get into the Phone management menu. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the correct key combination for the E6. The usual Symbian^3 combo of  Menu key, Camera key and Volume down won't work because the E6 doesn't have a Camera key or a Menu key. Other three finger salute combos include:
  • Shift, Space and Backspace - N97, N97 Mini.
  • Green call key, Red hang up key, Camera key - Pure touch Symbian 5th ed phones like the 5800, 5230 Nuron, etc.
  • Green call key, * key plus 3 key- Most older Symbian phones with a 12 key dial pad.
I tried the Shift, Space and Backspace  and  Green call key, * key plus 3 key combos on the E6 but they didn't do anything.  I'm sure that there is a three finger salute for the E6 but I don't know what it is.  If you do kindly let me know in a comment so I can update this post.
So was I able to fix my E6? Unfortunately not. I restored the OS twice and hard reset several times but even with nothing on the phone other than the pre-installed apps and with no apps running the phone periodically reboots even when sitting idle.
A small percentage of all complex electronic gadgets of all brands do fail, usually due to a single bad component out of the thousands that make up a phone. Fortunately, these failures are most likely to happen within the first few weeks of the devices life when the device is under warranty.
In spite of this particular E6 going south on me I do not hesitate to recommend the phone. It's a great replacement for an E71, E72 or E73 with a much higher resolution screen and a better camera and keyboard than any of those phones. Plus it's a touch screen which adds a lot of flexibility and ease of use to most apps. I'm a huge fan of Nokia's E Series QWERTY bar phones like the E72 and think the E6 is the best Symbian phone I've ever used and one of my favorite smartphones of all time. Up until it failed the E6 had been totally reliable.
Update: I discovered that if I remove the SIM from the E6 it's stable again even using WiFi and Bluetooth. But with any SIM (I tried both active and inactive ones from three different operators) inserted it starts crashing again. I suspect there is something wrong with the radio hardware.
